Mobile BMW key specialist across the North East

BMW keys are some of the more involved on the road today. From the older blade and remote fobs found on the 1 Series and 3 Series through to the modern proximity smart keys on the 5 Series and X-range, every BMW has its own coding routine. As an independent mobile auto locksmith based in Durham, I work on BMWs across the North East every week.

Whether you need a spare BMW key, you've lost all keys to the vehicle, or you're locked out and need entry, I come to you. I cover Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Middlesbrough and everywhere in between. No call-out fee, no VAT, and over 230 five star Google reviews from drivers across the region.

Types of BMW Keys We Replace

    Older blade keys (pre-2005 models)

Found on early 3 Series, 5 Series and Mini Cooper models. A traditional cut blade with a basic transponder chip in the head. Cheaper to replace and quicker to program.

    Remote fob keys

The familiar BMW 'shark fin' style fob with central locking buttons. Used on the 1 Series, 3 Series and X1 from the mid-2000s. Includes a cut blade and electronic immobiliser chip.

    Diamond / proximity keys

The chunky 'diamond' shaped smart keys found on the 5 Series, 7 Series and newer X3 / X5. Lets you unlock and start the car without taking the key out of your pocket.

    Push-button start keys

Modern BMWs use keyless go. The key holds an encrypted rolling code that talks to the car. These take longer to program because of the security layers, but I do them at your location.

    Mini Cooper keys

BMW-built Mini keys including the round Mini fob and the newer Mini smart key. Same group, same equipment, same on-site service.

How Much Does BMW Key Replacement Cost?

BMW key replacement typically costs between £150 and £350 depending on the model, the type of key and whether all keys have been lost.

    What affects the price:

    • Key type — a basic remote fob is cheaper than a proximity smart key
    • Model and year — newer BMWs with encrypted security take longer to code
    • All keys lost vs spare — losing every key requires a full system reset
    • Whether the key blade needs cutting from the lock or from a code

BMW main dealers will normally quote significantly more and ask you to recover the car to them. I quote up front, charge no call-out fee and add no VAT. The price I tell you on the phone is the price you pay.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Most BMW keys fall between £150 and £350 fitted and coded at your location. Older 3 Series remote fobs sit at the lower end. Newer 5 Series, 7 Series and X-range proximity keys sit higher because of the extra security and time involved.

Yes. Even with no working key, I can read the immobiliser data, cut a new blade, code it to your BMW and remove any lost keys from the system so they cannot be used again. I'll need your V5 logbook and photo ID before I start.

A spare BMW key is usually done within 30 to 60 minutes. An all keys lost job on a newer BMW can take 1 to 2 hours because the security system has to be wiped and recoded from scratch.

No. I'm SERMI registered which gives me manufacturer-level access to BMW security data. Everything is done at your location across Durham and the North East — no recovery, no dealer appointment.

Yes. Comfort access proximity keys are something I program regularly on the 5 Series, X3, X5 and newer 3 Series. Send me your reg and I'll confirm before I come out.
